The Russian Academy of Arts and the Regional Branch of the Russian Artists’ Union for the Yaroslavl Region present a traveling exhibition project, "Russian Ark", dedicated to the memory of the President of the Russian Academy of Arts, Zurab Konstantinovich Tsereteli (1934-2025). The exhibition will include more than one hundred works of painting, graphics, sculpture and decorative art by 30 authors of different generations.

The academic project "Russian Ark", implemented since 2022, is aimed at preserving and developing the best traditions of Russian art. One of its main objectives is to focus on the spiritual and historical outposts of Russia and traditional values expressed by artistic means. For a long time, the organizers and curators gathered artists from different cities of our country for plein airs, symposiums and round tables in such "places of power" as the Pskov-Pechersky Monastery (with the blessing of Metropolitan Tikhon Shevkunov) and Rostov the Great (under the spiritual guidance of Archimandrite Sylvester Lukashenko). The project’s final exhibitions were successfully held in Pskov, Cheboksary, Yaroslavl, Rostov the Great and Moscow.
The exhibition is based on the works of modern professional artists from many cities of Russia, who are united by their love for plein air painting. Working from life is important for each author - some create quick and finished works, others work on preparatory sketches for large paintings, capturing the momentary state of light, color and even sound, taste and smell. Paintings painted to the sound of bells, the chirping of birds, the sound of rain or in the silence of a snowfall, definitely carry all the feelings and moods that the author experiences at the moment of working on the work.
Unlike previous exhibitions, in addition to plein air sketches, the MVK RAKh will present a wide range of works by members of the Russian Academy of Arts, executed in various types of fine art. The curators note that the presence of works by the great artist and person Zurab Tsereteli in the halls is especially valuable and important for them. Paintings by academicians of the RAKh Evgeny Romashko, Konstantin Petrov, Elena Mukhina, Andrey Zakharov and corresponding member of the RAKh Sergey Danchev not only immerse the viewer in the unique beauty of the landscapes of our country, but also create a kind of chronicle of our time, focusing on the spiritual values and cultural heritage of Russia. The same theme is revealed in the sculptural images of patriarchs and saints by Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Salavat Shcherbakov, in the original ancient warriors of Dashi Namdakov, in a creative union with whom the organizers of the project "Russian Ark" Yulia and Anton Belov worked on the creation of the decoration of the temple complex of the Air Force. The bizarre movement of time is captured in the graphic series "The Secret of Closed Doors" by Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Sergei Gusarin. Particularly noteworthy are the works created in the labor-intensive technique of hot enamel by Corresponding Members of the Russian Academy of Arts Mikhail Beketov and Elena Evdokimova, ceramic compositions by Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Nadezhda Mukhina, as well as works by other masters, made in traditional techniques and modern types of decorative art.
