Hsar Gassiev is one of the largest artists of the Caucasus. The author of more than a thousand paintings. Arriving in Moscow in the early 60s, formed as an artist in the Moscow "left " environment. Returning to Tskhinval, he applied and developed the ideas of the "sixties ", combining them in his work with the heritage of folk artists - Soslanbek Edziev, Niko Pirosmani. Under the influence of the works of Gassiev in Ossetia, a whole generation of young original artists, sculptors, writers has grown.

Over the past decade, the artist has worked hard: constantly looking for something new, experimenting a lot, repeated many old compositions.

The artist’s entire life experience left a deep and tragic stamp on his work and at the same time his work reflects a great love for his homeland - Ossetia, its people and nature. And at 85, Hsar Gassiev is still an active and hardworking artist, answering the question “What are you dreaming about?” He answers: “I want people to understand what I wanted to say with my paintings…”.

The last major exhibition of the artist in Moscow (CHA) was organized by the Ministry of Culture of the USSR in 1986. The current exhibition, after 28 years again at the CHA, dedicated to the 85th anniversary of Hsar Gassiev, gives the metropolitan audience the opportunity to see the master’s paintings again.
