September 20, the Center for Contemporary Art "Winery" opens an exhibition of winners of the Kandinsky Prize Recycle Group. In the installation of Template of Life, Andrei Blokhin and Georgy Kuznetsov will recreate the process of disconnecting the computer from the network and convey the feeling of the machine to the viewer.
The Recycle Group, like all the participants in the Farewell to Eternal Youth cycle, reflect on the future and generation of millennials. In a new project at the Winery, they explore the topic of human-machine interaction, demonstrate how, thanks to technology and the media, the world is rapidly changing, subordinating, according to the authors, not only worldview, but also will.
In previous projects Blocked Content, presented in the Russian pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art and Homo Virtualis in the Pushkin Museum. A.S. Pushkin, Recycle Group are using augmented digital reality, and they will create their own at the Winery.
The main installation object is the capsule, where the Recycle Group through visual and sound effects will reproduce the process of disconnecting the computer from the network, assigning the viewer the role of the process participant. Thus, according to the authors, the viewer will experience the “sensation” of the machine at the moment of transition from an operational state to a complete shutdown, on the way to absolute “nothing”.
Artist Andrei Blokhin, Recycle group: “Having become participants in the“ Farewell to Eternal Youth ”cycle, we got the opportunity to create a unique project. This will be our first installation of such a scale. We are interested in what the viewer will feel when he is in the capsule and has experienced the transformation process. ”
In 2017, the Vinzavod Center for Contemporary Art, one of the first and largest private art centers in Russia, will turn ten years old. The main event of the anniversary year was the cycle “Farewell to Eternal Youth” - large-scale solo exhibitions of new generation artists, who are behind the future of contemporary Russian art. As part of the cycle, the exhibitions of Yegor Koshelev, Urban Fauna Lab (Alexey Buldakov and Anastasia Potemkina), Evgeny Granilshchikov, the spare parts group and Misha Most (in the White Workshop until October 8) have already been held.
Since the opening of the Winery, a whole generation of artists has been formed, who are still called young, although they have already won an audience, are actively involved not only in the Russian, but also in the world art process. We want to capture the transformation of artists from the definition of “young” to the status of “legendary”.
The Recycle Group was founded by Andrei Blokhin (1987) and Georgy Kuznetsov (1985) in 2006. In 2008, the first solo exhibition of artists called “Recycle” took place, which gave the name to the creative duo. From this moment, the Recycle Group regularly take part in Russian and foreign art exhibitions. In 2010, artists received the Kandinsky Prize in the Young Artist nomination for the Reverse project. In 2012, the Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow presented a solo exhibition “Paradise Network”. In 2016, the Recycle Group received the Arte Laguna Award in the Festivals & Exhibitions nomination. Artists took part in the program of the Venice Biennale in 2011, 2013. Their Conversion project at St. Antonin’s Church was part of the official parallel program of the Venice Biennale in 2015. In 2017, the Recycle Group represented Russia at the 57th Venice Biennale with the “Blocked content” project. In June 2017, the personal exhibition “Homo virtualis” opened at the Pushkin Museum. A.S.
