In February 2018, Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art opens an exhibition of St. Petersburg-Hamburg artist Alexander Rumyantsev.
Alexander Rumyantsev is a prominent figure in St. Petersburg’s artistic life, although he is a quiet artist, who for many years has been developing a deeply individual version of lyrical expressionism.
In 1975, when Alexander was 24 years old, he completed his studies in the workshop of Andrei Mylnikov at the Academy of Arts. From 1976 to 1984, Rumyantsev taught at the alma mater, but in the end he preferred the fate of an artist-creator to an academic career. In 1991, he held his first solo exhibition in Paris, then exhibitions in St. Petersburg and Hamburg.
Since 2000, the artist, who has settled in Hamburg, spends several months a year in St. Petersburg. To date, his works are stored in the collections of the Russian Museum, the Museum of Art of St. Petersburg of the 20th — 21st centuries, the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg, the National Museum of Karelia and the Museum of Contemporary Art Erarta.
At the exhibition “Dissolution” in the Erarta Museum will be presented more than 50 works of the artist of recent years - landscapes, interiors, portraits, compositions. They will demonstrate that the main thing in Rumyantsev’s work is not a genre, not a theme, but the very nature of painting, the culture of color relationships, light, the expression of feelings of anxiety and amazement before the phenomena of life, the inner glow of space.
The Dissolution exhibition can be seen on the 3rd floor of the Exhibition wing of the Erart Museum from February 23 to March 26, 2018.
