The exhibition presents watercolors and drawings by the Community of Artists of Botanical Painting and Illustration (SABA).
Botanical illustration requires the artist not only skill, but also knowledge of the morphology and ecology of plants. This genre is distinguished by uncompromising accuracy, which allows you to determine the depicted plant up to the main taxonomic unit - the species. Botanical illustration gives us a chance to stop time, peering into the perfect creation of nature.
Botanical illustration originates in medieval pharmacopoeias and herbalists. Often they encountered fantastic images of foreign plants, which were known only from the stories, and in reality nonexistent. During the Renaissance, research artists began to study and depict plants from nature, rather than copying them according to samples. The heyday of botanical illustration can be called the XVIII - XIX century. In the 21st century, artists pay more attention to the originality of compositions, color schemes, combining various techniques, “refreshing” a rigorous botanical illustration, introducing a plot and mood into it.
Within the framework of the exhibition, master classes in botanical painting and drawing, lectures and excursions will be organized.
