Dreams and phantasmagoria, bizarre and paradoxical worlds, images of social grotesque and naive artistic perception of reality - all that should not be taken literally - this is the leitmotif of the exhibition “Journey through Dreams”, which will be held in the ARTSTORY gallery from February 14 to March 24, 2019. On the example of paintings, sculptures and graphics created from the 1930s to the present day, the viewer can trace how the ambiguous images and motifs are born of the imagination of artists and inviting you to travel around measurements taken.

Just as in modern art the famous grotesque images are refracted, popular in ancient art, and in the Gothic era, and among the masters of the Italian Renaissance, and in the works of avant-garde masters, the theme of dreams is revealed differently in our time. This is a huge layer of artistic culture associated with the mysterious region of human emotions, part of the consciousness that creates virtual reality. The interpretation of dreams has always occupied a special place in the history of world art. Artists of various directions - from Renaissance masters to representatives of symbolism and surrealism - created their dream messages.

The dreams of the representatives of the artistic underground S. Alferov, O. Lang, B. Koshelokhov are filled with abstract images, living creatures here act along with geometric figures, and color spots are full-fledged, self-sufficient subjects.

The worlds of L. Voronova, S. Gorshkov, A. Karpov, A. Lobanov, V. Lyubarov, K. Medvedeva, A. Petrov, L. Purygin, A. Pyzhova — on the contrary, are inhabited by specific, more or less carefully registered people and animals ; their stories and fantasies are naive, but not at all simple. In each work, a literary background is seen: it can be folk tales or modern folklore of the village and urban outskirts.

The fantastic characters of I. Lubennikov, N. Nesterova, A. Ishina, I. Isupova or A. Shaimardanova lead the viewer on a journey through the post-modern fabric of literary and pictorial reminiscences to the images of modern society surrounding us.
