“This story is about loneliness, about finding your place, a close soul, about memories from childhood, when I spent all day looking at blades of grass, leaves, pebbles, twigs and dreaming…. all these images returned to me, turning on paper into a new reality, reflecting the internal and external landscape of experiences.
Elena Voskoboeva is a generalist graphic artist. She equally successfully uses water ink, manual printing techniques, experiments with prints of plants and randomly found objects. It is floro- and monotype that will become the leitmotif of the forthcoming exposition.
“In the workshop, in front of the machine - there, in front of it, with a bunch of leaves, branches or a pile of forgotten things… I have no idea what I should do, and even if I imagined - I feel that this should come - it’s like hypnosis, I look and look, and suddenly something begins to take shape… inanimate objects become humane and expressive, with their own character, mood…; the figurative and the non-figurative keep the balance in a strange flickering,” the author opens the veil of the mystical creative process.
“I’m starting from scratch, looking for a story that remains unsaid, unobvious; I imagine a situation that does not exist, I erase the space to invent something else, I change the color, the shape. I’m waiting to see what I can’t remember."
Elena Voskoboeva was born on the Black Sea coast.
She graduated from art school. S. Erzya and A. Tolokonnikov School of Landscape Design.
- Perhaps it was there that she acquired the very otherworldly knowledge about the world of plants, which she brings to our world.
- Today Elena lives in St. Petersburg; since 2012 is a member of the St. Petersburg Creative Union of Artists IFA.
- She shares the workshop space with the Decembrist Streets art group, which unites painting and rock music, professional theater and contemporary poetry.
- Elena herself is the bass guitarist of the punk avant-garde orchestra "Soft-boiled Cucumbers".
All this brings special accents to her work.
In 2021, thanks to her acquaintance with Dmitry Shagin, Voskoboeva got the opportunity to work in the Mitkovo creative workshop on the etching machine of the artist of the Arefevsky circle, Richard Vasmi, and switch to large-format printed graphics.
As with all museum exhibitions, admission is free.
