On May 26, the Lefortovo Museum of History opens the exhibition Industrial Lefortovo. Stories of factories, factories and manufacturers ". The exhibition will tell about the main industrial enterprises of the region - the Moscow Tea Factory, the Shesternya-Citroen Joint Stock Company, the Hammer and Sickle factories, Moskabelmet, and Compressor, as well as their founders and the impact they had on the development cities.
At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Moscow became one of the centers of the nascent domestic industry. 13 percent of all city enterprises were located in Lefortovo, more was only in the Pyatnitsky district - 16 percent. Productions appeared on this territory one after another for two reasons: cheap land far from the center and an accessible source of water - the Yauza River. Later, the Kursk railway was laid here, along which huge industrial zones also began to emerge.
The history of the emergence and development of five Lefortovo enterprises will be described in detail in the exposition of the Lefortovo Museum of History: the Moscow Tea Factory, the Shesternya-Citroen Joint Stock Company, the Hammer and Sickle factories, Moskabelmet and Kompressor factories. At the exhibition you can see genuine samples of the plants’ products and unique exhibits from the funds of the Museum of Moscow, the Polytechnic Museum, the State Museum of V.V. Mayakovsky, the Central Theater Museum named after V.V. A. A. Bakhrushin, the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia, the Mytishchi Museum of History and Art, the State Museum of Architecture named after A. V. Shchusev, including award badges, posters and posters, photographs, postcards and newsreels.
“Nowadays, factories are gradually changing their profile, factories stop working, residential quarters are growing on the site of the largest industrial enterprises in Moscow. Our exhibition is designed to show the importance of preserving the memory of the region-forming industries, many of which have already been lost, as well as to tell about the fate of key Moscow industrialists and their contribution not only to the development of the region, but the entire city, ”says exhibition curator Natalia Smolyaninova.
