"Signs of the time" Automatic translate

June 29 in the gallery "Belyaevo" Association "Exhibition Halls of Moscow" will open the exhibition "Signs of the Times." A special project of the parallel program of the 6th Moscow International Biennale of Young Art was prepared by graduates of the School of Modern Art “Free Workshops of MMOMA”.

The presence of myth and ritual in various areas of modern man’s life is the main theme of the exhibition “Signs of the Times”. In traditional society, any event was ritually ordered, and the feeling of the importance of what was happening was conveyed by religious tonality. Being closely interconnected with myth, the ritual was a necessary way of embodiment of the myth, reproduction of habitual reality. In a progressive society, attitudes toward rituals have changed. Today, in popular culture, freedom is glorified, people strive for independence, but the functions of the ritual and the ritual itself, as a mode of action, are still relevant today: waking up an alarm clock, buying the same products in a store, involuntary “knock on wood”, the beginning new life from monday. No matter how mechanical these actions may seem, they refer to the traditions of our ancestors.

The exposition space of the exhibition will be divided into sections devoted to topics that are important for project participants: the city and its legends, social networks and the cult of the gadget, human attitudes to his body and customs with appearance, fetishization of everyday life and the phenomenon of fetishism, initiation rites in modern society and the origins of ritualism.

The exhibition “Signs of the Times” will include meetings and excursions with curators and artists, discussions and film screenings. A more detailed schedule will be available on the gallery website.

Every third Sunday of the month - admission to the exhibition is free, with the exception of paid events.
