- “Troubles” is absolutely our topic, to some extent the continuation of the productions of Alexei Tolstoy. Studying this historical period, we drew attention to the difficult history of relations between Russia and Poland, ”said the artistic director of the Maly Theater, People’s Artist of the USSR Yuri Solomin. - Found the book of Vladimir Medinsky “The Wall”. They asked the author many questions, the play was rewritten three times. It was not easy, preserving its line, the traditions of the Small, by incorporating modern means, to create an outstanding performance.

This is one of the few modern productions, permeated with a feeling of deep patriotism and respect for the history of the Fatherland. It is not surprising that the author of the novel refused the fee for using his work in favor of the revival of the Smolensk fortress wall - a unique monument of history and culture around which the main events of the novel unfold.

- When we turned to Vladimir Medinsky with a proposal for cooperation, he immediately decided to abandon the royalties. It was decided to send funds to Smolensk so that all of them go exactly to the Wall, ”said Tamara Mikhailova, Director General of the Maly Theater. - As a result, we entered into an agreement with the Regional Office of the RVIO in Smolensk, and we transfer money to them.

The Russian Military Historical Society (RVIO) is a public-state organization of federal scale, it has branches in 83 regions of Russia. Every year, the company implements hundreds of projects in various parts of the country.

- The Smolensk branch of RVIO is an independent legal entity, organizationally independent of the Executive Directorate, which is located in Moscow. Working on the spot in Smolensk, knowing all the pain points of the facility, members of the reintegration department can track all stages of work, make decisions quickly. Therefore, we have taken the path of direct project financing, ”explained Vladislav Kononov, Executive Director of RVIO. - Thus, we achieve maximum transparency and efficiency of spending. The project participants, and indeed any concerned citizen, can be sure that all the amounts transferred by the Maly Theater under the contract will be directed precisely to the revival of the Smolensk fortress wall, ”he emphasized.

According to Elena Ulyanenkova, Chairman of the Smolensk branch of the International Public Fund “Russian Peace Foundation”, member of the Public Chamber of the Central Federal District and Smolensk Region, “The fortress wall, unfortunately, is not in the best condition, there are many emergency sections. And as far as I know, considerable money is required for repairs and subsequent adaptation - hundreds of millions of rubles. ”

- It is very symbolic that the author’s reward for staging a performance in the Maly Theater based on the novel “The Wall” is used to repair the fortress wall itself, which played a huge role in the history of Smolensk and the entire Russian state.
