The exhibition project Elide Cabassi "Limit and Infinity", organized by the Italian Institute of Culture in Moscow under the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Moscow, will be held from October 27 to November 22, 2020 at the State Museum - Cultural Center "Integration" named after N. A. Ostrovsky. The exhibition will bring together the works of the artist of the last 25 years: from early figurative compositions and watercolors to abstract painting, a new period in her work.
“Limit and Infinity” is a retrospective of an Italian artist who has lived in Russia for over 25 years. Her name is well known to critics and collectors, but exhibitions with the participation of Cabassi’s works are as rare as the very existence of the pictorial culture to which she gravitates today.
Elide’s works belong to both Italy and Russia. In her painting, you can find both references to Giorgio Morandi and to the "basis of the foundations", Giotto, and to the Russian icon, Andrei Rublev. Directly or as a dedication, these names appeared in her works, outlining, together with others, at different distances in time, a system of coordinates.
Visitors to the exhibition will probably be able to see how painting can almost literally depict silence: the absence of any noise and excitement; “Silence, as peace and as the highest harmony, conducive to listening, concentration… the poetics of silence, which reveals what is not expressed and what is impossible to express…” (Professor Vittorio Strada). And also to see the laconicism of the Russian landscape so close to Elis, white color, birch groves, always a wide distant horizon. “Culture and deep spirituality - this is what this country is so dear to me… by right it was defined by Marina Tsvetaeva as“ the country of the soul ””, - once said Cabassi. She works with very thin layers of paint, and with the finest tonal transitions within the image: “You can say that I build an image more through light than through color;it is the element of light that directs and defines my painting… Immersion in the Italian and Russian natural, artistic, cultural space gives me a unique opportunity to create a special pictorial spaciousness. "
An important part in Elide Cabassi’s life has always been teaching, which she began in Italy. In 2011, Elide created a unique art workshop - the Italian Art Laboratory - in the Moscow orphanage Nash Dom. Therefore, the exposition of the artist’s students - "I paint beauty" will become a completely logical addition to the personal exhibition project.
Especially for the exhibition, the Institute of Italian Culture, together with the Russian Academy of Arts, prepared a publication with the most complete collection of the artist’s works (ABCDesign, 2020).
Elide Cabassi was born in 1963 in Brescia (Italy). In 1986. defended her diploma in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence. Since 1993 he has been living and working in Moscow. Cabassi’s paintings are in the Yaroslavl Art Museum, in the Pskov Museum-Reserve and in private collections in Russia, France, Italy, Belgium, Bulgaria, South Korea, Switzerland, England, Germany and Japan.
