From December 16 to January 22, the Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography will host the exhibition “Following the Trail of Sacrifice”. Dedication to Andrei Tarkovsky. "
The exhibition will include photographs and interviews taken this summer on the Gotland skeleton in Sweden, where Andrei Tarkovsky’s last film, Sacrifice, was shot thirty years ago. As part of the parallel program of the exhibition, film screenings, lectures and creative meetings will take place.
“This exhibition is a tribute to one of the largest Russian filmmakers in the history of cinema, who passed away 30 years ago, but it is also a tribute to the Gotlanders who took part in the filming of the film,” is Victoria Ivleva, journalist, photographer and author of the project.
Three decades after the film “Sacrifice” received the Grand Prix of the Cannes Film Festival, photographer Viktoria Ivleva and researcher Ulla Tillgren (Stockholm, Sweden) managed to find the inhabitants of Gotland working on the film: an amateur actor, an embroiderer, the film’s decorator, consultant, waitress, hotel manager, journalist, real estate investor, cook, stove-maker, cleaning lady and executive producer — people who contributed to the success of the film in one way or another.
“In Nersholmen, we found a place where that famous movie house stood, and a field where ambulance drivers caught up with Erland Jozefsson,” the authors of the project say. - We were lucky to find the overgrown path along which Allan Edwall rode a bicycle. We saw the place where Sven Nyquist’s camera stood during the first house fire. Most of the people we met have not been in this place for more than thirty years, and almost none of them have ever been asked about the shooting then, with a Russian director. Everyone was invited to the premiere, and many thought that the film was intricate and difficult to understand. One of our hero recalls how he fell asleep, the other - as he left before the end of the film. And someone, on the contrary, immediately fell in love with that dreamy atmosphere. Now, in light of the past years, all of them woke up with a desire to see the film again. ”
