Zuev Evgeny Vladimirovich (1923 - 1989) - a recognized master of painting still life, an artist of the highest painting culture. Member of World War II.
He studied at the Art Institute of the Estonian SSR in Tartu. After graduation, he was sent to work in Kazan, where he taught at the Kazan Art College, led a children’s art school.
The exhibition opening at the Khazine National Art Gallery presents a retrospective of the work of Yevgeny Zuev from the collection of the Pushkin Museum.
In his early work E. Zuev was strongly influenced by M.V. Nesterova. His works were distinguished by juiciness and freshness of colors, skillful depiction of the texture of objects. In simple things, in modest field colors, in everyday objects, he found beauty, brightness, poetry.
In the 1950s, under the influence of the paintings by A. Matisse, P. Konchalovsky, I. Mashkov and M. Saryan, he discovered a unique and peculiar world of still life. In 1957, at an exhibition in Moscow, E. Zuev was awarded the 1st degree diploma of the Ministry of Culture of the RSFSR for his still lifes. In 1964 he was admitted to the Union of Artists of the USSR. Honored Artist of the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (1974).
In the mid-1960s, Zuev painted large, multi-sounding, still-life paintings, showing how generous, abundant, rich our land is!
A large place in the still lifes of Yevgeny Zuev is occupied by objects that characterize the wealth of Tatar folk art, decorating life with its colors, everyday life of a person.
An interesting series of still lifes “Seasons” begun by Zuev in 1970 is interesting. For each of the twelve months of the year, the artist sought to find a special expressive objective world. For August - the image of a fresh rosy loaf of peasant bread, for May - a bouquet of white bird cherry, for July - bright juicy forest berries, for September - apples, branches of mountain ash and viburnum.
Works of the 1980s becoming more free in the picturesque plan, following the traditions of European painting, the colorful extravaganza of Henri Matisse.
Personal exhibitions of the artist were repeatedly held in Kazan. The largest collection of works by E.V. Zueva is in the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan, as well as in art museums in Ulyanovsk, Saratov, Volgograd, in private collections in France and the USA, sold at auctions at the Hotel Drouot in Paris.
