The artist was born in 1918 in Sergiev Posad in a family of hereditary toy handicraftsmen, he was very interested in drawing. And at this time - a serious injury to his right hand, a blow that not only did not break the teenager, but, on the contrary, strengthened his desire to devote his whole life to art. In just a year, the young man learned to work with his left hand and entered the “Moscow Regional Art School of Memory of 1905”, which he successfully completed in 1939. After graduating from the school, he worked as a copyist at the Museum of the Revolution. Nikolai Barchenkov was one of the founders of the Association of Zagorian Artists, now the Union of Artists of Sergiev Posad.
The landscape became the main genre in the master’s work, first of all, views of Zagorsk (modern Sergiev Posad). Such works, finished paintings and sketches, a large number.
