On September 24, 2019, the Artefice Gallery will open a personal exhibition of Irina Voronina’s works, made in the art-quilt style.
The revival of the art of patchwork sewing arose in the wake of the "ethnic" fashion of the 70s of the last century. Art-quilt is a new direction of art textile. From the traditional patchwork quilt, only the main principle remained - the combination of many diverse parts into a single artistic whole. Today, quiltists are experimenting with all forms, techniques, and materials. As a result, the strength of the effect on the viewer of the art quilt’s works differs significantly from the ornamental-geometric compositions of the patchwork, mainly focused on the formal-decorative perception.
The exhibition presents a wide range of works by Irina Voronina, performed in this direction of decorative and applied art. The viewer will have the opportunity to see how the author’s vision and technique changes over time. To achieve an artistic image, the artist uses, in addition to color, texture and texture of fabrics, melting of synthetic materials, embroidery, dyeing and printing on fabrics.
The amazing art world of Irina Voronina is on the verge of irrational, with a fantasy world. It is an expression of personal impressions and thoughts of the author, which merge into a single rhythm of internal poetry. Combining the originality of various shreds, masterfully working with color and composition, Irina Voronina embodies artistic images in textiles that reflect her personal worldview. The beauty of nature, architecture, man forms a single whole, telling the viewer his own story.
“Irina Voronina is an original artist who has a rare imaginative vision in difficult to image material. Remaining decorative, its textile compositions are meaningful in the highest sense, and their content is special, expressed precisely through such material, in this way of processing. It’s customary to say “patriotic”, but I’ll say this is “matriatic” art, which displays a feminine, maternal, patronizing gift in us, - M. D. Izotova (art critic, artist).
Irina Voronina was born in Leningrad (St. Petersburg)
1981-1987 studied at the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. I.E. Repin at the Faculty of Architecture. Since the 90s he has been working on textile panels using the art quilt technique.
