Evgeny Zaremba’s new pictorial series is extremely metaphysical. The artist, as before, is interested in the material world - the environment of real forms, matters and volumes. But Zaremba goes beyond the subject area. In painting, he embodies inhuman, disproportionate volumes to us. Zaremba looks beyond the visible and captures a reality that is inaccessible to ordinary eyes.
Inversions of volume and the play of light and shade on Zaremba’s canvases sometimes play a cruel joke with the viewer: it may seem that the artist creates trompe l’oeil and adds a second bottom to the paintings. This is by no means true. And this is the essence: Zaremba takes material forms and real spaces as a basis. His tools are the extreme approach or distance from the subject: the artist fixes the macro- and microcosm of forms. Behind the bewildering illusion, there is an intimate connection with the natural world of things. The painter penetrates into the essence of forms, revealing to us inaccessible angles of objects.
Approaching or removing - what kind of conceptual technique does the artist use? In the case of Yevgeny Zaremba’s painting, the formal issue fades into the background. Much more important is the fact that the artist penetrates into the depths of the world order and reveals the mysterious nature of everything. The world in his performance, on the one hand, allows us a little closer to the clue of the origin. On the other hand, he throws up questions for eternal, endless reflection. Evgeny Zaremba’s painting is an attempt to portray the incomprehensible.
The depiction of metaphysical landscapes requires liberation from the artist - first of all, from the concept of human scale and logic. Relying on reality, Zaremba abstracts: we see the fruit of a difficult speculative effort. The artist’s ability to look beyond the cover of the objective world allows him to dive deeper and deeper into complex spaces that lie beyond the edge of human subjectivity.
