Measuring distances in kilometers is the method of a geographer, traveler, cartographer. To correlate the significance of a particular place with its future capabilities is a task for the historian, politician and commander. To generalize, invent and analyze is the mission of the philosopher and scientist. And to study your country as an endless stream of discoveries is the path of the artist and poet.
The traveling All-Russian exhibition "Picturesque Russia" of the Creative Union of Russian Artists is a study of the inexhaustible creative resources of our country, conveyed by the plastic language of painting - a language that does not require translation. No artist can pass indifferently past the perfection of the living beauty of eyes sparkling with youth, past the miracle of successive seasons or a blossoming flower.
Constantly changing according to the context of time, the work of many authors touches on the themes of eternity and fleetingness, expectations and thoughts, similarities and differences, their own destiny and love. While maintaining the traditions of the national school of painting, rich in the names of the great masters of the past, modern painters - both experienced masters and young artists - work in the mainstream of fine art associated with plein air practice. No matter how the plastic experiment the artist’s path is connected, no matter how his story palette and tools change, the main task for him remains to be honest in the profession before himself and the audience.
More than 200 paintings, exhibited as separate personal points of view on the development of modern painting, show the transformation vectors of the painting trends of today. The genres of portraiture, landscape, still life, associated with an intuitive understanding of nature, are far from expressive forms of modern art. The perspective of the exhibition is focused on the actual painting, existing as one of the artistic practices of our time. "Picturesque Russia" reflects not only the variety of points of view on fine art, but also raises the question of painting as a document of the era, its connection with geography, history, and the specifics of the depicted place.
