1. Pavel Filonov and the Russian avant-garde.
Pavel Nikolaevich Filonov (1883 - 1941) - one of the prominent representatives of the Russian avant-garde. He formulated his concept of analytical art in 1914. What is the uniqueness of his method in comparison with other artistic systems - the Suprematism of Kazimir Malevich, the constructivism of Vladimir Tatlin, the theory and practice of extended viewing by Mikhail Matyushin? What is the connection between the “World Rise” - the main idea of his work with the utopian ideas of the avant-garde and the socio-political views of that time - this will be discussed in a lecture.
2. The school of Pavel Filonov in the context of the Leningrad culture of the 1920-30s.
The collective of masters of analytical art (MAI) was the most representative school of the Russian avant-garde and a notable phenomenon in the Leningrad art life of the turn of the 1920s and 30s. It was the last exit of the avant-garde, marked by striking events - such as the Filonov exhibition in 1927 and the OBERIU evening “Three Left Hours” in the press house. This beautiful and terrible era was marked by a number of significant achievements in art and, at the same time, the gradual advance and curtailment of the avant-garde program. This turning point, the fate of the students of the Filonov school, their friends of the poets of the Oberiut will be discussed at the lecture.
