November 28 at 16.00 in the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts (Lenin St., 103, second floor) will open the exhibition of decorative and applied arts from the collection of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts "Palekh Tales". The exhibition will feature caskets, caskets, as well as illustrations for the book “Russian Folk Tales” by artist A. N. Kurkin in a typical Palekh manner.
Palekh painting is one of the most recognizable artistic folk crafts. Initially, the artists of Palekh were famous for their church painting, but in the post-revolutionary period, in Palekh, they created an artel, whose masters began to paint on wood. And in 1925, the works of artists of this artel were exhibited at an exhibition in Paris and gained worldwide fame. A special boom of Palekh painting is characteristic of the late 1960s - early 1980s.
The most important difference between Palekh painting, and other original Russian painting crafts, is the rendering of miniature compositions - images that tell a certain plot. The main color for the background is black, and the colors for painting are gold tones and their variations. As a basis: stories of epics, fables and legends; household scenes. In addition to the usual caskets, caskets and trays, one can often find books in which, to illustrate the classical works of great Russian authors, they use scenes made by Palekh painting.
Presented at the exhibition illustrations for the book "Russian Folk Tales" by A. N. Afanasyev, created in 1977 - 1978. Palekh artist Alexander Mikhailovich Kurkin are in the collection of the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts. They are made on sheets of papier-mâché on a black background in a fairy tale manner characteristic of the master. In his work, the artist retained the style of the old Russian icon - the slender proportions of the figures, the conditional image of the landscape, decorativeness and ornamentality, bizarrely combining a truly existing nature with fantastic vegetation, birds, animals. The illustrations are multifaceted, on one sheet the past and present are depicted, several events occurring simultaneously, located at different levels. Tales with his illustrations were published in the 1970s. not only in the form of books, but also albums.
The exhibition runs until December 22.
