The group exhibition is dedicated to art in the urban space: Soviet monumentalism, modern public art, architectural design and street art (graffiti and street art).
Public art is any formal or uncoordinated intervention of artistic expression in public space, including sculpture, objects, images, and more. Public art is urban art associated with the construction of the local identity of the inhabitants of a particular place. The purpose of this exhibition is to show a kind of cross-section of urban art that has been shaping the visual landscape of Russian cities in recent decades.
The exhibition presents works of various media (graphics, painting, photography, video, objects and installations) both directly from the urban environment, as well as more intimate and personal works of artists who have gained fame while working in public spaces. Comparing the art of large and small forms of the same authors, viewers will be able to imagine the undiscovered potential of artistic strategies in the design of urban space.
