On December 9, Vera Pogodina’s curatorial project opens at the EKATERINA Cultural Foundation

“Postcards from artists. Winter". The exposition of the exhibition will include more than two hundred works by contemporary artists and creative associations of different generations, most of which were created specially for it.

At the beginning of the 20th century, a special artistic style of the classic New Year’s postcard developed in Russia, which existed until the middle of the last century, having survived wars and revolutions. Unique works of small formats were performed by the most famous Russian artists: Alexander Benois, Ivan Bilibin, Igor Grabar, Boris Zvorykin, Mstislav Dobuzhinsky, Ilya Repin and many others. At the beginning of the 21st century, thanks to the participation of contemporary artists in the curatorial project of Vera Pogodina, this half-forgotten genre found a new life and became one of the forms of contemporary art. The festive and lax character of the project provides artists with great freedom in choosing themes and subjects, but in each case a small postcard turns out to be a projection of the author’s basic and invariably recognizable style for the viewer.

The project, founded in 2008, will take place for the fourteenth time and, according to tradition, will unite the work of many representatives of the modern art scene, most of whom will specially create works for the upcoming exhibition. This year it will also be attended by young artists - students of Vladimir Dubossarsky and Aidan Salakhova. Another feature of Vera Pogodina’s new project will be large-format thematic works included in the exhibition for the first time, along with chamber works. “Postcards from artists. Winter ”are made in the most diverse style and technique: canvas / oil, paper / watercolor, paper / pencil, mixed media, collage, art object, photo / video art and others.

“Postcards from artists. Winter ”is an attempt to revive the tradition of a unique New Year author’s gift. Every year new authors join us, and more and more spectators come to the exhibition. For 14 years we have shown "Postcards from Artists" at many Moscow venues: in the space of our gallery, in the Literary Museum, in the Museum of Architecture.
