The day before, on December 9, 2019, in the courtyard of the Human Rights House, a new sculpture composition “Justice and Mercy” was presented by the President of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, Georgia and the USSR, USSR State Prize laureate, Russian State Prize laureate, Picasso Prize, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Zurab Konstantinovich Tsereteli.
The ceremony was attended by: Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation T. N. Moskalkova, author of the monument Z. K. Tsereteli, vice-presidents and staff of the apparatus of the Russian Academy of Arts, representatives of government, human rights and the scientific community.
The two-meter bronze sculpture is an arch mounted on a pedestal, made in the shape of a heart, inside of which there are seven bells.
“… There are two main elements - the heart, which always symbolizes love, compassion and mercy, and bells. Because when we encounter human grief, we beat all the bells and knock on all doors to help a person to restore truth and justice, ”Tatyana Nikolaevna Moskalkova noted at the opening.
At the end of the ceremony, the author of the sculptural composition Zurab Konstantinovich Tsereteli said: “This is my heart for you, the Russians!”
