On Saturday, June 23, 2018, in the poet’s small homeland, in the village of Kosiha Altai, the monument to Robert Rozhdestvensky was unveiled. The sculpture was made by Zurab Konstantinovich Tsereteli, People’s Artist of the USSR and the Russian Federation, President of the Russian Academy of Arts, at the request of Rozhdestvensky’s daughter.
The monument, 1.8 meters high, is cast in bronze. It is installed near the Center for Patriotic Education and the Robert Rozhdestvensky Memorial Museum.
R.I. Rozhdestvensky is one of the brightest representatives of the “sixties” era, a poet and translator, and songwriter.
In the works of 3.K. Tsereteli the image of the “sixties” occupies a special place. He created a whole portrait gallery of prominent artists of this time, which is part of the high-relief series "My Contemporaries". In it, the sculptor embodied the images of outstanding musicians, poets, artists, whose work was included in the golden fund of domestic and world art heritage. These are Alexander Blok, Sergey Yesenin, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Anna Akhmatova, Nikolai Gumilev, Marina Tsvetaeva, Osip Mandelstam, Boris Pasternak, Andrey Voznesensky, Evgeny Evtushenko, Bella Akhmadulina, Vasily Shukshin, Bulat Okudzhava, Andrey Dementiev and others.
The artist creates images of those who are close to him spiritually. He defends the value, the significance of the inner life of man. Now among his works appeared the image of Robert Rozhdestvensky.
The official opening of the monument was the end of the traditional literary festival "Christmas Readings", held in the Altai Territory.
