The program will be continued by Olivia Plender’s Comtemotta project, a dedication to the Women’s School of Civil Rights at the Vogelstad estate in southeastern Sweden in the county of Södermanland. The exposition will be located in the Library, lobby and stairs of the MMOMA Educational Center.
The Vogelstad School is a unique institution, opened a hundred years ago, in 1921, immediately after Swedish women gained the right to vote and be elected to parliament. It was a bold pedagogical experiment designed to teach female students their new social role - "to be citizens" and to take part in political life to the best of their ability. Various elements of Olivia Plender’s installation at the MMOMA Education Center are based on a role-playing game that was developed at the Vogelstad School and involved solving various political and social problems-situations in a fictional city called Komtemotta (Kom Te Måtta). The exhibition is complemented by archival photographs of the Vogelstad School.
