October 27, 2015 at 16.00 in the halls of the Russian Academy of Arts at the address: Prechistenka street, 21 exhibition of the works of the corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts Oleg Lang "Sum of painting".
The exhibition introduces the work of one of the bright, distinctive Russian artists. O. Lang went through a difficult creative path, managing to develop his own unique style. In 1981, he graduated from the Moscow State Art Institute named after V.I. Surikova. He began with the creation of landscapes and genre paintings from the life of the Russian province, but gained fame as a master of complex abstract and figurative compositions. The artist’s works are in collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, in many Russian and foreign museums and private collections.
Each artist’s work is the result of a long and painful search. His works are distinguished by subtle irony, the ability to feel the ambiguity of the world and through chaos to find harmony. Images inspired by reality seem to dissolve, disappear in a fancy game of color spots and lines, in complex structural plexuses. The artist combines abstract color configurations with funny and ridiculous figures of humanoid creatures. Awareness of the irrationality of the world permeates the work of O. Lang.
Based on real historical events and field observations, Oleg Lang created his picturesque improvisations, where each event acquired new meanings and sounds, very far from the usual interpretations and perceptions. In such canvases as "Ivan Susanin", "Ivan the Terrible. The murder of his son ”,“ Peter’s Dream ”expresses the artist’s individual view of the dramatic ups and downs in the history of the country. Here fantastically connected reality and fiction, a bizarre associative series and personal experiences of the author.
The art critic A. Yakimovich writes: “Langu is interested in both primitivism, and Moscow’s picturesque cuisine, and a quote from an old ceremonial portrait, and the most burning avant-garde of any kind. Direct borrowing is rare (and not because the artist is shy to imitate, but because everything that is being watched is grinded in the process of unbridled writing). ”
The uniqueness of the artist’s creative manner is distinguished by all of his compositions, whether it be elegant small-format paintings or large canvases-polyptychs, where his gift for the monumentalist is manifested. Lang understood painting as a universal language that has not lost its relevance and is still valid. The artist was able to see in fragments, "scraps" of being a whole world full of suffering, search and hope.
The retrospective exhibition includes over one hundred paintings created in the 1980s - 2013, from the collection of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and the collection of the artist’s family.
The exhibition runs until November 15, 2015.
