On June 28, the GUM-Red-line gallery on Red Square will premiere a new series of paintings by Oleg Kulik, one of the most famous Russian contemporary artists.
“Irresponsible Painting” is a new series of works by Oleg Kulik, which will be presented for the first time in the GUM-Red-line gallery on Red Square from June 28 to August 1, 2019. She is inspired by the fashionable styling of neural networks.
“Irresponsibility is an individualistic, deeply personal gesture,” says Oleg Kulik, “and at the same time, it is irresponsible in the sense that this painting has no goals in the future: every painting is the last action.” “This is Kulik 5. 0,” says curator Mikhail Sidlin, “the first Kulik was a sculptor, the second a performer, the third a photographer, the fourth an opera director, and finally the fifth a painter.”
The exhibition will feature 17 monumental paintings and three sculptures. All of them use current technology of instant work with traditional materials for the artist. Quick clay modeling with hands and a peppy wave of a brush indicate that Oleg Kulik insists on speed as a necessary weapon of a modern author.
Neural networks - visual sign of 2019. Images obtained using software processing of the original photographic materials were not literally transferred by Oleg Klik to the canvas. These transformations, on the one hand, erase the individuality of the source, and, on the other, emphasize the role of the collective unconscious. The resulting images of leaders and crowds look like a surreal broadcast from the noosphere to the exhibition hall near the Kremlin. Oleg Kulik becomes the oracle of the Russian soul.
On June 22, at 18:00, Oleg Kulik’s participative performance “Quick Modeling” will be held. The artist invites everyone who loves contemporary art to collaborate. Together with those who wish, he will sculpt “Idol”. “You can put all the energy, positive or negative, through your own fingers, imprint it in clay and bake,” says Oleg Kulik.
