On April 26, 2024, at 12:00 pm, the exhibition hall of the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts (104 Lenina St., southern wing) will open an exhibition of engravings and lithographs “The Charms of Delacroix.”
The exhibition "THE CHARMS OF DELACROIX" presents a large-scale retrospective of the works of the greatest French artist of the 19th century, FERNAND VICTOR EUGENE DELACROIX - 100 lithographs and engravings executed in Paris and Leipzig in 1864, 1913 and 1928 from his sketches, sketches, drawings and paintings, covering his most fruitful period creativity from 1823 to 1857.
Delacroix turned out to be the largest of the masters of his time who spoke out against academic classicism. In art history, he is rightfully considered the head of French romantic painting. Showing exceptional sensitivity, observation and skill in his countless studies from nature, he anticipated the best achievements of subsequent generations. No wonder the Impressionists called Delacroix their forerunner. And at the same time, he became one of the last historical painters and masters of thematic painting in Western Europe. Delacroix always attached great importance to the work on the initial sketches, which should outline the outlines of the planned work. He persistently emphasized that in order to create a picture, you need to have the art of seeing a finished work in a sketch. Paying tribute to this approach of Delacroix to his works, it was his sketches, sketches, and drawings that became the leitmotif of the entire exhibition.
Having inherited from the great tradition the completeness, nobility and solemnity of composition and being a worthy successor of the old masters, the artist was able to add to their achievements his mastery in conveying suffering, passion and emotional movement, becoming a great composer in painting, where amazing chords sound and always remain timeless all the CHARMS of DELACROIX…
