On January 22 at 19:00 in the Small Hall of the Russian State Library for Youth (Bolshaya Cherkizovskaya St., 4, building 1) the opening of the exhibition “Common Place” will take place, dedicated to reflections on the space of the house and the events that take place in it.
The objects of the exhibition will be the works of graduates of the Free Workshops school at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA), as well as the Winzavod Open Studios: installations, photographs, sculptures.
Home is a place where close people meet, where family history is kept. It is there that a person’s personality is formed, views on life are laid, which are then transmitted to the outside world. We are forever connected to our home spiritually and emotionally; it reflects our individuality. Home is calm and safe.
But what happens when the home idyll collapses: due to natural disasters, one’s own fears, or harmful family attitudes? The artists tried to find their own answers to this question within the framework of the “Common Place” exhibition.
In the works of artists one can notice the contrast between the image of the feminine, chaotic and the masculine, rational.
Natalia Fedorova, Kirill Klokov and Miloslava Snigar explore the image of a house in which boundaries with the outside world are violated. Spontaneous, monstrous “chaos” penetrates into a safe home environment, transforming the “space” created by man - control over space is lost.
Diana Mazokina in her work reflects on the beauty of the withering of things that gradually lose their useful qualities; about the typical housing that exists in every city in our country.
Closely associated with the concept of home is the image of a woman who is the keeper of the hearth. The works of Yulia PTL and Anna Minaeva show the image of a mother-artist, locked within four walls, exhausted by caring for her child and under pressure from relatives.
The tendency to make stereotyped value judgments and susceptibility to external restrictions is reflected in the works of Vivato Eka.
Artists, like friends gathered in the kitchen in the evening, share their family stories. At some point, the line between truth and fiction blurs, leaving only emotions, feelings, fears and past experiences.
The exhibition will last until February 18.
