The Erarta Museum opens an exhibition of contemporary paintings by St. Petersburg artist Alexei Chizhov, which offers a look at the world order through the prism of images of modern military men.
The work of Alexei Chizhov, like any practicing painter, is inextricably linked with tradition. Using canonical samples of Soviet painting in his artistic universe, the author engages in a conscious dialogue with the past.
His series “The New Order” is extremely serious, since it is a question of war. Aleksey Chizhov is not shy about manifesting a certain civic position with his works, which makes us recall the naive sincerity of romantic art. He uses archaic artistic language, abuses allegories and allegories in the spirit of Soviet science fiction. Chizhov’s paintings are a kind of epic of a hybrid war. An artist who set out to show the "trench truth" of an information war would probably portray the icy darkness of a giant server room patrolled by a lone IT specialist wearing a Star Wars logo t-shirt. Chizhov offers us something like a military-historical genre of the 21st century: “In the New Order series, I, following the traditional anti-utopian pathos, tried to present a general metaphor for modern geopolitics.”
About the artist:
