NEW YOUNG IN THE NEW T-SHIRT. GIFT OF WINES FACTORY Automatic translate
Vinzavod Foundation for the Support of Contemporary Art donates to the State Tretyakov Gallery the work of artists participating in the anniversary cycle “Farewell to Eternal Youth”. The presentation of the transfer of works as a gift to the Gallery will be the first part of the project “New Young in the New Tretyakov Gallery. Gift of the Winery ”, which includes a comprehensive educational program - lectures, master classes, events.
The Tretyakov Gallery continues the program “Patrons and Donors to the Tretyakov Gallery”. In 2017, in the year the program was launched, the museum received a record of 1,936 exhibits, including works by art classics of the second half of the 20th - beginning of the 21st centuries - Eric Bulatov, Dmitry Zhilinsky, Dmitry Prigov, Geliy Korzhev. The most important new event in the framework of the program is the donation of ten works to the Gallery by the Foundation for the Support of Contemporary Art Winery
the most prominent representatives of the young generation of contemporary artists. This is the work of participants in the exhibition series “Farewell to Eternal Youth” organized by the Winery.
For the first time in domestic practice, the museum of classical art accepts as a gift a significant body of works by contemporary artists from one of the first private art centers in Russia. The event, dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the Winery, completes the institute’s anniversary program, in which in 2017 a series of large-scale personal exhibitions of representatives of the new generation in Russian art was realized, for which the time had come for the transition from the status of “young” artists to the status held. These are Dmitry Venkov, Arseny Zhilyaev, Irina Korina, Egor Koshelev, Vladimir Logutov, Misha Most; Alexey Buldakov and Anastasia Potemkina (Urban fauna lab); Evgeny Granilshchikov, Eldar Ganeev, Evgeny Rimkevich, brothers Vasily and Stepan Subbotin (Group of "spare parts"); Andrey Blokhin and Georgy Kuznetsov (Recycle Group).
Participants in the “Farewell to Eternal Youth” cycle work in different types of art: in monumental painting, graphics, photo and video installations, silk-screen printing, sculpture, graffiti and with various media. Each object transferred to the Tretyakov Gallery is unique in its own way, expresses the author’s personal statement and demonstrates the actual processes in contemporary art. These artists are united by how sensitively they react to modernity, do not reproduce, but comprehend it.
The cycle began with the Palazzo Koshelev exhibition, the title of which refers the viewer to history, continued with the ZIP project, dedicated to the utopia of revolutionary take-off, and one of the last exhibitions was the exhibition of Arseny Zhilyaev - a mystery story about an artist of the future, a robot trying to recreate our reality. The curators of the project did not initially intend to combine the exhibitions with one topic, but the result was a peculiar portrait of the art of the generation of 2000-2010, shown through the main subjects that interest artists - from comprehending the past through the present to trying to present the modernity through the prism of the look from the future.
The project shows how high the importance and credibility of the expert assessment of the curator and the Winery as an institution as a whole. Specialists of the Tretyakov Gallery are aware of this and therefore especially value this gift.
General Director of the State Tretyakov Gallery Zelfira Tregulova: “The collection of the museum was replenished with works of artists who, despite their youth, proved their involvement in the history of Russian art. Winery’s contribution allows filling serious gaps in the collection of the beginning of the XXI century. With gratitude, accepting this gift, we once again recall that the Tretyakov Gallery began as a gallery of modern art, that Pavel Mikhailovich opened the way to many aspiring artists who later became the glory of Russian painting. We try to become worthy successors of his work, and colleagues with extensive experience in the field of contemporary art help us in this. A series of exhibitions held at the Winery last year demonstrated the great potential of the authors, who created compelling projects for large-scale space, in which relevance is combined with the timeless problems of mankind. The seriousness of the plots, the highest quality of performance, the originality of the creative style of each author - all this indicates the accuracy of the choice of project curators. ”
Sofia Trotsenko, President of the Winery Factory Support Fund for Contemporary Art: “Throughout the past 2017, we have analyzed the previous decade in the history of the Winery. “Farewell to eternal youth" is our study of the generation that has grown with us. The result of the project was the Tretyakov Gallery’s interest in artists represented as part of a cycle that brought together ten contemporary artists and ten curators. In fact, Nikolai
Palazhchenko, curator of the project, assembled a painting, a monumental canvas with the participation of artists. On the one hand, this is the logical conclusion for the exhibition project - when the museum replenishes the collection of the presented works, but for the first time for us. Coincidentally, none of the artists exhibited is represented in the collection of the Tretyakov Gallery, which reinforced the uniqueness of the cycle, and our gift is the support of contemporary art and culture in general, the development of relationships with museums. ”
Since April 19, the courtyard of the New Tretyakov Gallery is transformed into an exposition space. A large-scale art object of the “Spare Parts” Group “Balance with a small error” will be installed here. The column-monument to the abstract leader will become the dominant of the museum yard. A camera will be installed next to the statue at the top of the column, which will broadcast on the screen in the lobby of the museum. The “ruin” transformed into a bench for rest is endowed with multiple meanings - the violation of the sign of former glory is combined with the romantic experiences of the greatness of bygone civilizations. In the work dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution, the Spare Parts Group demonstrates the error between reality and the idea of what a revolution is and what happens after it with power, how it is transformed.
At the same time, in the lobby of the New Tretyakov Gallery will be shown a video installation on the work of the “Farewell to Eternal Youth” cycle.
The inclusion in the collection of the Tretyakov Gallery of works performed in non-traditional media is a kind of challenge for custodial practice. It is still difficult to imagine how a museum should store works made in digital technologies, or in material whose condition and long life are difficult for us to predict today. In the domestic museum business, regulations for the storage of such works have not yet been worked out. The museum takes on the task of creating methods for the restoration, conservation and preservation of this body of work and will be ready to share experience with the museum community.
