On November 17, the Museum of Moscow opens a new exhibition of an interdisciplinary project about districts and for districts "Moscow without outskirts". The first exposition told about Taganka, the second will be devoted to Kapotnya - an industrial area near the Moscow Ring Road, which in recent years has increasingly attracted the interest of researchers and citizens.
Kapotnya is a unique area with its own special internal structure and way of life. There is a city-forming enterprise, residential areas, green areas and infrastructure facilities. Having become part of Moscow in 1960, Kapotnya is today a well-maintained area, an important part of the metropolis.
Modern Kapotnya inherits the Soviet tradition of urban space planning and develops in accordance with current trends in urban planning and landscaping. Located here, the Moscow Refinery supplies fuel to gas stations and airports in the capital, and the area itself demonstrates a unique model for building a local identity that includes industry, natural landscapes and the charm of everyday small-town life.
Kapotnya is an area where, according to local residents, everyone knows each other. The history of the place will be presented through the stories and memories of people. Thus, the section of the exhibition dedicated to the layout and internal structure will combine architectural and urban planning documents with personal stories and family photographs. The part of the exposition, collected by the residents themselves, will feature both family relics, for example, a collection of commemorative badges of the Moscow Oil Refinery, and household items, behind which are hidden subjects important for the region, among which are items bought in the Kapotno Department Store, which were in Soviet times one of the best shops in the capital.
Contemporary artists joined the process of preparing the exhibition and interacting with the residents of the area. Documentary filmmaker Natalya Kasyanova filmed a lyrical video sketch about the life of Kapotno pensioners, and sound artist Oleg Makarov created an audio installation uniting a collection of sounds collected in the area. The artists of the Free Workshops School of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art organized a series of drifts - spontaneous walks along Kapotnya, which inspired them to create photographs, videos, sculptures, objects and even a small street art project.
