State Museum of Architecture A.V. Shchuseva presents an exhibition of futuristic projects of the Soviet NER group - “NER: In the wake of the city of the future. 1959-1977. " The exhibition is dedicated to the collective project of the experimental architectural group NER, which has been developing the urban planning model of the city of the future, “The New Element of Settlement,” for more than fifteen years.
The humanization of the urban environment, the city as a space of creative communication between people, the fundamental separation of the production space and the space of life, the rejection of the uncontrolled growth of cities and the proposal of a settlement system on a national scale are the basis of the projects of the NER group. The conceptual apparatus of this model over time firmly entered the domestic practice of urban development.
The exposition will introduce the stages of the NER theory of the city - from a collective student diploma in 1960 to projects published abroad and presented at the XIV Milan Triennial in 1968 and at the Expo in Osaka in 1970. In the Ruins halls will be shown materials from the personal archives of NER members, recreated mock-ups, sketches and publications, as well as video and audio testimonies of the NER project participants themselves.
The exhibition is accompanied by a large-scale cultural and educational program.
Presentation of the book “NER. City of the Future ”is the first specialized collection in which the creative heritage of the group is considered in the context of Soviet and international architectural discourse of criticism of modernism. The scientific illustrated publication was created with the support of the AVC Charity charity foundation.
At the presentation, the book will be described by its authors Jean-Louis Cohen and Maria Panteleeva and graphic designer of the project Mikhail Anikst. From the end of December, the book can be found in the bookstore of the Museum of Architecture.
From December 20 to 22, an international scientific symposium will be organized by the Higher School of Urban Studies named after A. A. Vysokovsky, Faculty of Urban and Regional Development of the Higher School of Economics, together with the curators of the exhibition, Maria Panteleeva and Alexandra Gutnova.
