Exhibition “In the language of rules and exceptions. Science and Art” is organized jointly with the Polytechnic Museum. The exposition is devoted to the relationship between the two main types of human activity and the variety of manifestations of their mutual influences. The exhibition will be held as part of the Decade of Science and Technology announced in Russia (2022–2031).
The project will present six interactive objects and more than 80 works spanning 500 years from the Late Renaissance to the latest art, from works by Dürer and Rembrandt to installations by contemporary artists ::VTOL:: and Andrey Bartenev. Among the masters on display are Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, Pieter Brueghel the Younger, Katsushika Hokusai, Georges Seurat, Fernand Léger, Joan Miro, Kazimir Malevich, Pavel Filonov, Ivan Leonidov, Konstantin Yuon, Yuri Pimenov, Dmitry Plavinsky, Vyacheslav Koleichuk, Francisco and Plato Infante-Arana, Bill Viola and others.
The works are provided by the largest Russian institutions, including the State Hermitage Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin Museum im. A. S. Pushkin, State Museum of Oriental Art, Museum of Architecture named after A. V. Shchusev, Stella Art Foundation, as well as private collectors. The Polytechnic Museum provided key exhibits for various sections of the exhibition. These are rare and valuable devices, among which is the only recorder that has survived to this day - a device for recording seismic vertical oscillations, a telescope of the 18th century, a solar microscope of the 19th century, a folding sundial and other items that allow you to immerse yourself in the topic of a particular field of knowledge. Vivid examples of the contact between science and art are the portable camera obscura and camera lucida from the collection of the Polytechnic. Visitors will be able to understand
