Nikolai Popov is a composer, teacher, researcher, member of the Union of Composers of Russia, a member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia, a researcher at the Center for Electro-Acoustic Music of the Moscow Conservatory, a teacher in the Department of History and Theory of Music of the Russian University of Theater Arts (GITIS).
