How to see the Garden of Eden?
April 23 in the House of Spiridonov will open an international exhibition of Veronica Smirnova, Eugene Nyman and the art group DUSKMANN. Using various forms of visual art, each of the participants managed to create their own concept of the eternal Garden of Eden. Vernissage will be opened by Roberto Cavalli, a fashion designer who supports the project.
The work of the London artist Veronika Smirnova echoes elements of Byzantine iconography, Russian folklore, paintings of the pre-Renaissance era and the Eastern school with its wide repertoire of symbols and abstract color effects. In the series of presented works written on left handed boards using the egg tempera technique, the idea of a personal paradise garden combines contrasting mythologemes in images that, like fairy tales, can contain more than reality.
Eugenia Nyman creates her own Garden of Eden in a series of landscapes where beauty and tranquility coexist along with anxiety, tension and desire. The conflict between the strong color, the rigidity of the line and the flatness of the surface creates an alarming graphic explosion that brings the viewer to new levels of expectation.
DUSKMANN’s work is inspired by a visit to Sicily, where artists were fascinated by the divine marble textures they saw on this beautiful island. In digital photographs, viewers will be able to see an amazing play of shadows, due to the unusual nature of the subject. Another series of works depicting frozen lightning suggests again thinking about the eternal confrontation of light and darkness.
The exhibition will last a month, admission is free.
