If St. Petersburg had brushes, he could write his own history on canvas, but, alas, cities are not capable of holding a palette, but they can inspire their talented residents to tell a story on their own behalf. Vladimir Viktorovich Proshkin is an artist whose life is inextricably linked with St. Petersburg. A red thread intertwined their fate. For 86 years, the honored artist of the Russian Federation has been breathing in the air of the city above the free Neva, like a chronicler he writes the history of the city: eternal and majestic.
"My city"
The works united in the My City cycle are devoted to St. Petersburg. Saint Peter, the former St. Petersburg, Petrograd, Leningrad. Its embankments hold the memory of each of the historical milestones. His present life is a reflection of epochs of past, deeds completed today, views directed towards the future. The keen eye of the artist sees through courtyards, wells, noisy avenues, secluded embankments, he sees the soul of the city and imprints it in his works with infinite love and respect. “My city” is more than an image of a city. These are two souls, united into one, these are two worlds - a man and a city, identified in a single whole, this is one story told by the two of them.
The dates of the My City exhibition were not chosen by chance. On July 28, according to the new style of the church calendar, there are Vladimir’s name days. From Slavic interpretation of the name means "who owns the world." Vladimir Viktorovich Proshkin, being an artist, not owning, depicts the world, turning fleeting moments into an eternity, frozen on canvas.
