From February 19 to April 15, the exhibition "Moscow of the 19th and 21st Centuries" will be held in the courtyard of the Museum of Moscow. It was based on materials of remarkable photographic heritage - albums with views of Moscow Nikolai Alexandrovich Naydenov, businessman, banker, collector and connoisseur of Moscow history.
On the initiative and with the support of N.A. Naydenova in the 1880s was photographed "views of some urban areas, temples, remarkable buildings and other structures of Moscow" in different parts of the city: the Kremlin, Kitay-Gorod, Bely and Zemlyanoy cities, the area beyond Zemlyanoy Gorod.
Over the past century, reproductions from foundnova albums have been distributed in many publications. The relentless interest in them can be explained by the multifaceted nature of the city’s history and human destinies reflected in the pictures.
Without trying to grasp the immensity, the organizers chose from a wide variety of collections the places well known to Muscovites and guests of the capital: the Kremlin, Ilyinka and Varvarka, boulevards, embankments, etc. Archival photographs from foundnova albums were supplemented with modern photographs taken from the same points of shooting as possible. Each pair is equipped with detailed comments explaining both the image itself and its hidden meaning. You will learn about the history of the construction of shopping malls on Red Square, walk along the trading Ilyinka of the late 19th century, where the buildings of banks and the Moscow Exchange were located, you will see a monument to Pushkin before moving across Gorky Street (now Tverskaya Street), you will find out where the Triumphal Gates used to be, and how to say it right - Sewing or Sewing slide.
The exposition is addressed to Muscovites and guests of the capital, who are not indifferent to the history of the city, and to those changes that have occurred since the shooting of archival photographs.
The exhibition was prepared by the Moscow Time Foundation.
