On October 28 at the Gilyarovsky Center, a branch of the Museum of Moscow, the exhibition “Moscow collection of Boris Kosarev. Portrait against the backdrop of the city ”, timed to coincide with the 110th anniversary of the artist’s birth. The exposition presents his Moscow photo chronicle: the construction of new districts, the realities and innovations of city life, as well as the most important political events of the 1950-1970s.
Boris Maksimovich Kosarev is a well-known Soviet photojournalist, laureate of many international exhibitions of the 1950-1970s, staff photojournalist for TASS, author of iconic photographs of the legendary Yalta conference (1945). He gained fame as the author of the official Soviet chronicle. Newspapers and magazines published his photo reports of parades, demonstrations, congresses of the CPSU Central Committee, meetings of leaders of states and government delegations. However, most of his work remained unknown for a long time. For many years Boris Maksimovich has been photographing Moscow, and it is these pictures of the city that will be shown at the Gilyarovsky Center.
The Moscow collection is only a part of the master’s photographic heritage. Thanks to the family of Boris Kosarev, today the Museum of Moscow possesses a unique photo archive, which includes 600 digital photographs.
