On January 22 at 4:00 PM, the Gallery of Siberian Art (23 Karl Marx Street) will open the exhibition "My Heart in the Mountains," dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the birth of Honored Artist of North Ossetia Vasily Pavlovich Glushkov. The exhibition features approximately 30 paintings and graphic works. The exhibition is dedicated to the Year of Peoples’ Unity in Russia.
The artist was born in Vladikavkaz. Admiring the beauty and power of his native land, the young man aspired to become an artist and enrolled at the Moscow Central Institute of Art and Industry. In 1941, he volunteered for the front and reached Berlin (he ended his service in Potsdam). For his military service, he was awarded the Order of the Red Star and numerous medals. After the war, he continued his studies at the V. I. Surikov Moscow Art Institute. He decided to devote his artistic skills and talent to the Caucasus. He taught at the North Ossetian Pedagogical College, worked at the Art Fund of the North Ossetian ASSR, and collaborated with the North Ossetian Book Publishing House. Images of highlanders, their tales, and the nature and everyday life of the Caucasus determined the themes of Vasily Glushkov’s works. The artist created many book illustrations for editions of Caucasian epics, mastered graphic art techniques, and taught graphics to students.
Driven by a love of travel, the artist and his family moved to the Irkutsk region in 1973. Vasily Pavlovich Glushkov lived and worked in Angarsk for the last 25 years of his life. A new period in his creative biography began in Siberia. From 1976 to 1980, he taught at the Irkutsk School of Arts. Works by Honored Artist of the North Ossetian ASSR V. P. Glushkov are held in the collections of the North Ossetian Art Museum, the Museum of the Museum of the North Ossetian ASSR, the Shushenskaya People’s Art Gallery, and the Angarsk City Museum.
The exhibition "My Heart in the Mountains" is a gift to the people of North Ossetia and to all who cherish the Caucasus. It will be on display at the Gallery of Siberian Art (23 Karl Marx Street) until February 2. For inquiries and to book a tour, please call 33-43-89 or 21-70-65.
