The Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art is launching a project within the framework of the “Farewell to Eternal Youth” jubilee cycle - Misha Most “Evolution 2.1”. One of the first street artists in Russia, the Kandinsky Prize nominee, Misha Most will present a large-scale solo exhibition in Moscow. “Evolution 2.1” is the result of an experiment on the interaction of man with artificial intelligence. The central part of the exhibition will be occupied by a picturesque panel, completely created by the robot according to the sketch of the artist.
The entire exhibition space is a futuristic image of an experimental laboratory. The exposition includes works created in collaboration with humans and robots - painting, installation, sculpture. They reflect three types of communication between a person and a machine. The first is the creation of the work by a controlled mechanism, the second is the setting of tasks for the artist by artificial intelligence, and the third is the joint creation.
Misha Most reflects on the future profession of the artist and wonders: how will technology affect art? Will the creation of a work of art become a mechanical process or will it remain the prerogative of exceptional talent?
Misha Most: “Man has always tried to look into the future. With the development of technological progress, this concept began to change greatly. Today, when it is possible to implement almost any idea, it no longer seems as romantic as it seemed at the end of the 20th century. The future has become more utilitarian. We are approaching a time when artificial intelligence will increasingly replace the real one. Perhaps very soon in the museums will show works created by synthetic intelligence. Reflecting on the creative processes of the future, I invited a group of programmers and a robot as a co-author. ”
Curator of the exhibition Julia Lebedeva: “Contemporary art often reproduces the workshop system due to the scale of its work. In the era of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, the artist had assistants and apprentices. In the twentieth century, the most striking example is Andy Warhol’s “Factory”, when even the name itself reflected the specifics of collaboration. Today, artists such as Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst work with a large group of assistants and assistants. In art, machines and computers already do a lot. Will artificial intelligence become a leading figure in the creation of a work of art in the future? ”
Sofya Trotsenko, President of the Foundation for the Support of Contemporary Art VINZAVOD: “Misha Most can be called the artist of the Winery. We met more than ten years ago, before the official opening of the art cluster, when we were preparing the graffiti festival. Then the winery looked completely different, for example, the Bely Shop did not have a roof, and old bottles dated to the year 1907 were stored in the cellars. Then Misha had the first workshop here, he participated in gallery exhibitions. It is very important for us that it was at the Winery that Misha Most went through all the stages of his formation and will now appear as an established artist with a large and bold exhibition about the future. ”
In 2017, the Vinzavod Center for Contemporary Art, one of the first private art centers in Russia, turns ten years old. The main event was the cycle “Farewell to Eternal Youth” - large solo exhibitions of new generation artists, who are behind the future of contemporary Russian art. As part of the cycle, the exhibitions of Yegor Koshelev, Urban Fauna Lab (Aleksey Buldakov and Anastasia Potemkina), Evgeny Granilshchikov and the spare parts group have already opened.
The title of the series “Farewell to Eternal Youth” is ironic. Since the opening of the Winery, a whole generation of artists has formed, who for some reason is still called young, although they have already won an audience, they are actively involved not only in Russian but also in the world art process. We want to capture the transformation of artists from the shy definition of “young” - into the status of “legendary”.
Misha Most was born in Moscow in 1981. He began his career in 1997 at the dawn of the development of Russian street art. The artist’s works were presented at exhibitions in Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Great Britain, USA, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, France and other European countries. Member of the Moscow International Biennale of Contemporary Art and the Moscow International Biennale of Young Art (2011, 2012). Nominee for the Kandinsky Prize (2008). Organizer of festivals, curator of exhibitions and projects, author of lectures on various areas of street art. Curator of the project “Wall at the Winery” (2013). In 2016, in the Bronx (New York, USA), Misha Most created one of his largest works abroad (300 sq. M.). In 2017, on the facade of a metallurgical plant in the city of Vyksa (Nizhny Novgorod Region), the artist created monumental work measuring 10,000 square meters, which is a world record.
