April 8 at the Trekhgorny manufactory opens the gallery "Rosewood". The main idea is a symbiosis of design and painting of the second half of the twentieth century.
The debut exhibition "Midcentury: Designer Furniture and Abstract Painting" will be held from April 8 to May 10, 2017.
The design of the 1950-60s is characterized by clean lines, animated material, moderate minimalism. After half a century, these qualities do not lose relevance. Many pieces of furniture by leading designers of that time are perfectly preserved and today decorators create elegant interiors with their help.
The exhibition will show things of Italian post-war design with its flowing lines, Scandinavian furniture with its characteristic laconic forms and commitment to natural materials, American samples from recognizable bent plywood. Among the authors are Jindrich Jalabala, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Joe Ponti, Arne Jacobsen, Norman Cherner, Charles and Ray Eames and others. All items are special, in excellent condition. They will please the eye of a professional, and the beginner will be carried away by the history of design.
The founder of the gallery, art critic Alina Kovaleva, building a thematic line, in fact, shares her personal story of design.
Another part of the exhibition is devoted to abstract painting, which appears here as an organic and necessary complement.
The 50s of the last century is the heyday of abstraction, which has become a real phenomenon in world culture. Expressiveness, spontaneity, psychologism are just some of the features of abstract post-war art. Two cities played a major role in the formation of abstraction: in New York - Pollock, de Kooning, Rothko, in Paris - Sulazh, De Stael, Poles, Vieira Da Silva.
Today, along with such big names, other talented masters of that era are becoming more and more in demand, which is expressed in the growth of auction prices and the increased interest of famous European galleries. Such artists will become another specialization of the gallery "Rosewood".
The authors of the reconstruction project of one of the workshops of the Trekhgornaya manufactory - the Wowhaus architectural bureau. The classic industrial building of the end of the 19th century was turned into a functional gallery space that meets the specifics of “Rosewood”. The architectural design is distinguished by simplicity, elegance, ergonomics and comfort.
In addition to exhibitions and sales of furniture and paintings, the gallery plans to conduct lectures, master classes, round tables for professionals and just interested in design and painting.
