On January 26, at 19:00, within the framework of the “Private Collection” project, an exhibition will open in the Nagornaya gallery of the Moscow Exhibition Halls Association telling about the participant in the art scene of the 70s-80s, Russian representative of the Vienna school of metaphysical realism Vladimir Petro- Smooth (1948-2017). In the spring of 2018, the artist would have turned 70 years old.
Vladimir Petrov-Gladky is one of the brightest participants in the group of 20 MOSCOW ARTISTS, known in the 70s and 80s, stylistically different, but united by an understanding of creativity as the freedom to make “pure art”, independent of official ideology. The right to apoliticality, and in fact, in my opinion, my opinion, private life: all this in the context of that era was a breath of air for contemporaries. At the group’s exhibitions, the lines lined up, like behind a scarce sausage.
Continuing the search for Russian philosophical and religious thought of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the artist embodies speculative spaces on canvas, rethinking the old European and Russian culture. The artist draws his images, where there are angels and medieval beauties, gods of Greek and anthroposophical myths, portraits of the wives of diplomats and socialites, who appear as if on the surface of a theater curtain, and behind it is “white noise”, flickering poetry of the ineffable.
Petrov-Gladky is one of the few Russian contemporary artists whose work turned out to be not only in demand abroad, but inscribed in the European history of art. In the 90s in Vienna, the artist met with the founder of the school of "Vienna Fantastic Realism" Ernst Fuchs, who recognized him as one of the bearers of the movement he created.
If in terms of content, Petrov-Gladky’s work follows the path of rethinking European and Russian artistic heritage, then his very style is the transformation of lessons learned from his teacher — a figure unique in the force of influence on his contemporaries V. Sitnikov. The artist “translated” the Sitnikov sensation of the imperishable beauty of everyday life into the sensual baroque of strokes, into the vibrant glow of colors and lines.
The exhibition "Metaphysical Realism of V. Petrov-Gladky" presents paintings of different years: about 30 works from an early period to the last time from the collection of the artist’s wife V. Petrova, from the collections of Moscow collectors (D. and S. Andreevs, V. Dudakov, V. Dechet, V. Vinogradova, E. Yarovoy-Pkhakadze, E. Kalugina, M. Ryzvanovich), as well as drawings and documentary materials.
The curator of the project is Alla Kharitonova.
