On October 1, Formula Kino City hosted the Russian premiere of the full-length documentary McConkey, filled with sincerity and love, the main idea of which is: “You only have one life. Live it. ” Sherry McConkie (wife of Shane McConkie) and Murray Weiss (director of the film), who came specially for the premiere screening, happily talked to all the audience after the film and answered their questions.
On the evening of October 1, more than 450 guests gathered in the lobby of the Formula Kino City movie theater who came to see the picture and commemorate the founder of freeride and base jumping skiing - Shane McConkie. Already on the morning of the day of the premiere screening, all the tickets for the film were sold, and although the weather and traffic jams in Moscow violated some plans, most of them coped with these troubles and managed to get to the beginning. The film did not leave anyone indifferent, so after watching the audience met Sherry McConkie (the wife of Shane McConkie) and Murray Weiss (the director of the picture) standing and with thunderous applause. All those who came had a unique opportunity to ask Sherry and Murray a question or express their personal opinion, which turned out to be words of gratitude and respect to McConkie himself, his family and the director of the film.
Sherry McConkie: “I am very grateful to the Moscow audience for the warm welcome, openness and emotionality! I didn’t even suspect that in Moscow so many people know and remember Shane! ”
Murray Weiss: “Moscow was the last city of the European tour, tomorrow I will return home and take away with me the warmest feelings about Moscow spectators and this amazing city!”
“I haven’t seen such films for a long time and I am very grateful to Sherry for agreeing to the shooting of such a film, and to the director for the fact that he did a titanic work and was able to keep Sherry and Shane alive and feeling in this documentary!” - Russian documentary director, Andrei Selivanov, shared his impressions of the premiere.
The film is dedicated to the life of the great athlete and innovator Shane McConkie. The picture combines both dynamic shooting of incredible descents, and excerpts from home videos, as well as interviews with those who knew him best. Viewers will be able to look at their hero from the other side and find out what he was like in ordinary life. As for sports, the film tells about how a person who did not want to adapt to other people’s standards managed to achieve success by playing by his own rules, remaining true to his dream and taking everything from life every day. “Even those who are far from extreme sports will find in this film something that touches certain strings in their souls: it is love, determination and love of life,” says Karina Hollekim, a Norwegian skier and base jumper. “It shows how a person can find something that will make him happy, and so he will meet every new day with a smile.” All fees from this film will be transferred to the fund, bearing the name of the athlete.
The picture, shot by Red Bull Media House in collaboration with Matchstick Productions, will be released on October 6, 2013. It can be downloaded, including on a rental basis, through iTunes and other retail chains, including Google Play, XBOX, PlayStation and Vudu.
