The Russian Academy of Arts presents an anniversary exhibition of works by the national artist of Russia, academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, recognized master of decorative art Lyubov Ivanovna Savelyeva “Between Heaven and Earth”.
The work of Lyubov Savelyeva is a special page in the history of modern art. From her first works, the eccentricity of the creative personality was clearly manifested, an individual distinctive path in art was outlined, always consonant with time or ahead of it. The anniversary exhibition includes works from different years. The universal talent of the author is surprising. She works with glass, ceramics, no less successfully in graphics, is engaged in painting, writes poetry, has created a special form of author’s utterance for poetry.
L.I. Savelyeva was born in Moscow. In 1966 she graduated from the Moscow Higher School of Industrial Art (MGHPA named after Stroganov) with a degree in art glass. Her teachers were famous artists G. A. Antonova, B. A. Smirnov, V. P. Statun. Immediately after graduating from the Moscow Higher Art School, Savelyeva becomes a regular participant in art exhibitions. She performed her first work at the Dyatkovo art glass factory. In 1974-1978 she worked at the glass factory "Red May".
L. Savelieva’s special deeply personal way of thinking, emotionality and an unmistakable vision of material properties and technical techniques in each particular plan lead to discovery. The concept of "author’s style" is fully applicable to her creations. “Take off - step over yourself”, flight into space, a breakthrough, inspiration - these words contain the true meaning of the author’s creative impulse in the realization of his ideas. The world of her works is multifaceted and rich, bright and dramatic.
In 1975, Savelyeva created a unique plastic composition, Sokolniki, which became significant in the author’s work, as well as in updating the development line in domestic glass-making. Hollow transparent volumes became a poetic metaphor for glass space, a landscape populated by people, birds, painted with silicate colors. “Earth”, “Self-portrait in space”, “Pool”, “Posyet Bay”, “Two” and dozens of other works appeared in which the author develops his version of the glass microworld.
The picturesque free manner of painting by Savelyeva, always recognizable, developed in parallel with the modification of the plastic form of a decorative item made of colored glass, the author’s cycles “Armchairs”, “My Contemporaries”, “My Neighbors”, “Together”, “Hello to the Young, Unfamiliar Tribe”.
Savelyeva managed to develop and continue the unique tradition of glass plastic begun by V.I. Mukhina. One of her best works is the “Mourners” series depicting a group of women, as if frozen in a mournful pose, gestures. L. Savelyeva was one of the first who turned to work with flat sheet glass, to the technique of sintering (fusing) of this unusual material, creating a series of portraits of poets: “A. Pushkin "," N. Gogol "," F. Tyutchev "," A. Akhmatova ", as well as genre scenes.
A special creative and semantic move lies in the invented authoring technique that combines glass and metal. In 2010-2014, Savelyeva creates plastic reliefs in which figures, hand-carved from copper plates, are fused into the glass layer ("Angel", "Who We Are", "People", "Mothers", "Running").
It is in such author’s notions that the individual style and unique handwriting of the master are manifested. Wise simplicity, high meaning and spiritual beginning are the most powerful and significant features of the artistic creations of Lyubov Savelyeva. “Frozen glass - as a form of thought, as a form of feeling, a form of being… There is air and immense space in it!” These words of the author explain the essence of her artistic creations.
Savelyeva turned to faience plastic in the early 1980s. Opaque white material dictates a different image of space. “Two”, “Gift”, “Cloud”, “Poetry and Philosophy”, “Thought for Life”, “Thoughts for Peace” reveal to us a world of images and people with all their life conflicts. The undoubted success of the author are the sculptures “Angel”, “Seraphim of Sarov”, a series of portraits of Pushkin, Gogol, “Lyceum students”. Further development of the plastic form takes place in the 2015-2019th years in such works as “Conversation”, “Chess Player”, the original composition with a double-sided image “Double Portraits”. The combination of a white surface and black graphic painting creates a special decorative effect.
The graphic art of the master is a significant part of creativity. A special handwriting of the picture, combining lines energetic in rhythm, stroke, spot, geometric elements and floral motifs, the image of figures in motion, in complex angles, creates a picture of a diverse microcosm.
A peculiar artistic discovery of Savelyeva was her "poetry." Author’s verses are part of the composition of the graphic design of the book, from the pages of which the word of the characters depicted seems to sound.
The exhibition gives an idea of the work of an outstanding artist, who, by the power of his art, calls for reflection on the meaning of life.
The work of L. I. Savelyeva was marked by prestigious awards and prizes of various domestic and international organizations, works were exhibited at numerous Russian and international exhibitions, competitions, symposia on glass. The artist’s works are presented in the collections of the largest museums in Russia, the CIS countries, in the collections of galleries in the USA, Belgium, Denmark, Great Britain, Sweden and other European countries, in private collections.
