November 19, at 15:00, the Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography invites historian and researcher of photography A. Loginov, “Experiments of the Photo Vanguard: Jacob Khalip,” to a lecture.
About the lecture:
At the beginning of the twentieth century, in the areas of politics, economics, social and cultural construction, attention shifted to solving secular issues of everyday life. The development of new ideas about reality accelerated the experimental search for avant-garde art. The heyday of design and propaganda media has led to significant changes in the field of photography. Photo masters of various generations began to look for the answer to the key question of their time - is it possible to simultaneously endow a single work or creative project with three opposing properties: plot reliability, aesthetic expressiveness and ideological persuasiveness. How to create propaganda art that maintains objectivity, combine the truth of life with the ideal of political utopia, achieve artistry only by means of dry documentation of reality? All these issues will be considered on the example of the works of J. Khalip, his teachers and colleagues. The answers to these questions are relevant in modern life, since the vast majority of people still believe in the "objectivity" and "reliability" of the photo-report image.
