On Saturday, April 15, at 15.00, a lecture by the traveler, photographer and journalist Anton Agarkov on the theme “Features of the organization of a long-term photo expedition” will take place in the Gallery of Classical Photography.
At the upcoming event, Anton will share his experience in implementing the large expeditionary project “Heirs of the Steppe”, dedicated to the nature and culture of Central Asia. In 2014, the photographer spent three and a half months on the road and “wound” about ten thousand kilometers, making a trip to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and Buryatia. The result of this large-scale expedition was a collection of unique personnel and more than two dozen enthusiastic publications in the media.
An extensive lesson program includes answers to questions about:
1. How does a media expedition differ from a regular, albeit long trip with a camera, and why are many of the trips that are loudly called expeditions really nothing more than a "ride"?
2. How to build a travel route without being tied to hotels, check-in dates, flights and all that we are accustomed to consider the most important? What to take with you on the road if you have to not just go the route, but also take off a beautiful story? How to look for partners and sponsors of the expedition, and why a thousand letters of refusal of support should motivate you to write the first thousand? And also - why is it better to immediately forget about earnings and try to minimize costs?
3. How to behave on the route: what you should pay attention to, what to prepare for, what to stock up and what to throw away? How to communicate with locals? What to shoot and to whom to turn for help to bring something more than just a pack of beautiful photos?
4. How to make a list of things on the road? A camera, lenses, a good backpack and reliable boots… Why useless things and equipment can cause you a “wagon and a small cart” trouble?
As part of the practical part of the lesson, participants are invited to test Manfrotto backpacks and Gitzo brand tripods that accompanied Anton on his trips. Everyone will appreciate the Lenspen range of special cleaning products for matrices and optical lenses. To do this, you will need to bring your camera: the matrix is cleaned in your presence and completely free.
