Sunrises, gentle twilight… and suddenly in the 1900s there were bright colors, separate strokes, strong contrasts. But nothing similar happens in the photograph of this time. Pictures of Nikolai Meshcherin show the landscape in the spirit of the mid-19th century, despite the fact that already at the end of the century, pictorialists were working on conveying the shades and complex effects of light and atmosphere in photography.
Nikolai Mescherin lived in interesting times: without even traveling to Europe, he reflected everything that happens in landscape art, but in his own way. The melancholy intonation and interest in the transitional states of nature distinguishes it from many contemporaries. We will talk about the interaction of Meshcherin with world trends in the landscape at a lecture. We will discuss both picturesque and photographic landscapes with all their features.
More than a hundred years have passed, the master’s paintings and photographs reflecting life in the Dugino estate, where Meshcherin lived and where Russian artists came, became valuable evidence of the past. We will talk about how and what Dugino transformed from Meshcherin’s paintings. The lecture will be interesting to everyone who loves nature and painting.
