November 23 at 18.30 in the Gallery of Classical Photography will be a lecture by fashion designers Andrei Skatkov and Maria Orlova from the creative group "SAMO" on traditional Japanese clothing "Kimono era of change."
It is generally accepted that kimono remains unchanged throughout millennia-old Japanese history, however, this is not at all the case. The beginning of the Meiji era (1868–1912) put an end to the long period of samurai rule and self-isolation of Japan, which lasted more than 200 years. Along with this, notable changes have also affected traditional clothing. About what transformations occurred with a kimono in an era of changes will tell a lecture at which rare antique samples will be demonstrated.
The lecture will examine several layers: material (the historical period, the fabric from which the kimono is made, the method of making the pattern, the sewing technique), as well as symbolic (the purpose of the thing, the symbols depicted on it and family coats of arms) and practical (the nuances of dressing each layer of the ensemble kimono).
Lecturers: Skatkov Andrey and Maria Orlova (design group “SAMO”) - theater artists, reenactors, collectors, members of the Creative Union of Artists.
The lecture is held as part of Vladimir Asmirko’s photo exhibition “Immortal friendship: in the footsteps of Admiral Putyatin in Japan”, which focuses on the figure of the Russian admiral Euthymius Putyatin, as well as the history and modern life of the places connected with it in Japan.
Entrance to the lecture on the ticket to the gallery. The number of seats in the lecture hall is limited, for participation it is necessary to register by the link: https://orientpro.timepad.ru/event/832999/
