Concept
The project is based on the methodology of the 17th-century European educator Jan Amos Comenius, who created the encyclopedic work The World of Sensual Things in Pictures, in which he decomposed the entire surrounding world into 150 objects, classified these objects and their constituent elements in a peculiar way.
The working group of the academic project, based on the work of Comenius and consulting with various experts, classified the world surrounding modern man, conditionally dividing his model into 100 objects intended for artistic research.
Since 2014, every two years, 10 out of 100 themes-objects are determined by lot, which become the reason for the creation of works of art.
This year, works are considered on the following 10 topical topics from the Comenius List: prediction, testament and message, typography, chance play, death, stage, tricks and mirages, holiday, bad habits, apocalypse.
The Creative Union of Russian Artists sets itself the task of displaying the diversity of the natural world and human relations through the works of artists of the early 21st century, exploring the art process, the changes that have taken place, and assessing the role of art in the ongoing socio-political processes.
“The project is designed for 20 years, its main result should be an analytical study of the artistic situation in the domestic fine arts, the publication of 10 volumes of the art encyclopedia “Red Gates/Against the Current,” notes Konstantin Khudyakov.
According to Konstantin Khudyakov, the project will be completed in 2032, with the completion of the artistic reading of all 100 themes-objects from the Comenius List. This year it is planned to publish the 5th volume of the art encyclopedia with reproductions of the participants’ works and analytical articles.
