On September 26, the new theater season 2018-2019 will open on the Great Stage of TsATRA. A play based on the historical epic novel “The Red Wheel” by Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the Army Theater will lift the dark curtain over the truth of the most difficult period for Russia, which began with the bloody red terror of the beginning of the 20th century. The premiere is timed to the 100th anniversary of the birth of A.I. Solzhenitsyna.
There are no parts, chapters or sections in the play. There are four hard knots in which the fate of tsarist Russia, peoples and future generations are tied. The play destroys stereotypes, changing the ossified notion of recognizable historical figures, including Stolypin, Lenin, Nicholas II, Bagrov. For example, the ideological revolutionary Krupskaya appears as a living woman with a vulnerable soul, exhausted by love for her genius. The future All-Russian Emperor Nicholas II is shown by a loving father and a good family man, despite the theme of "Russian ballet", which is also present on the stage.
The dramaturgy of the performance takes the viewer deeper into the era in which the fatal approach of the red wheel is felt. The heavy material - arguments about Stolypin and his murderer, educated intellectual Bagrov - is served easily and naturally through three cute gossips, two aunts and a young niece. Their conversations resemble discussions in modern social networks.
The play “Red Wheel” allows viewers to feel themselves inside those events, and not just be outside observers. The chairs are arranged by the amphitheater right on the stage in the Big Circle; the action itself takes place in the Small Circle. Documentary footage creates a special emotional tension.
First appeal B.A. Morozov to the work of A.I. Solzhenitsyna took place at the Maly Theater, where in 1995 with great success he staged the play "Feast of the Winners" by A.I. Solzhenitsyna. Not only spectators and critics praised the performance, but the author himself called Boris Morozov’s “Feast of Winners” “one of the happiest moments of his life.”
Screenwriter, playwright Olga Lyubimova says: “There is not a single word that I invented in the play! I decoded compressed historical facts from 8 volumes of Solzhenitsyn’s novel, adding theatrical scenes and conversations of living people from separate pieces, like puzzles. Aleksandr Isaevich had such a special, original language that for me to insert even any verbs-connectives would be blasphemy. I played punctuation marks! My task was to carefully convey by means of art the attitude of Alexander Isaevich to his heroes. ”
And, finally, the main idea of the production, as defined by Boris Morozov, which will be embodied in a bright, lively, relevant, timely, pulsating performance, sounds like this: “You need to know the story in order to sharper feel the present.”
